Mandrake

Mandrake

Protection • Divination • Love
Mandrake root, officially known as Mandragora officinarum, is a highly magical plant that appears in countless myths and stories. For centuries it was used for medicinal and magical purposes — as a painkiller, for inducing visions, but also dangerously toxic in higher doses.

It is a very poisonous plant with wrinkled, elongated green leaves. The roots of the mandrake are irregularly shaped, and those with vivid imagination can see small human-like figures in them. According to legend, when the root is pulled from the ground, it lets out a terrible scream, powerful enough to kill anyone who hears it if not handled correctly. At the same time, the roots are said to protect their owner from evil spirits and to promote love and fertility. For this reason, mandrake roots were often carried in amulets or worn as necklaces.

A deeply magical plant, but one that must be approached with the right intentions and handled with respect.
